Preventing Tragedy: Trauma and Mass Bleeding Control
Learn the skills needed for preventing loss of life from survivable traumatic injuries from events such as vehicle crashes, hunting / hiking / camping accidents, active shooter situations, agricultural and oilfield injuries. This is not a first aid course. These are the same life saving skills taught to military and law enforcement officers.
Course Description:
During this course we will take an in depth look at two major causes of death, massive blood loss and lack of oxygen to the blood stream. We will instruct you using anatomically correct training devices which provide the most realistic training possible. You will receive hands on training in bleeding control on various types of bleeding including arterial. You will learn proper application of tourniquets, wound packing, pressure dressings and other skills utilized in bleeding control. We will guide you through the use of vented chest seals as needed to control punctures to the chest cavity, usually identified as sucking chest wounds, which can lead to oxygen shortage and drop in blood pressure. You will receive instruction on improvised slings and splints for use in dislocated joints and broken bones. We will validate the skills learned by the end of course via scenario based training exercises where you will identify the injury and decide the appropriate method of treatment in a realistic training environment.
